Blogging – Why do we do it?

0

To blog or not to blog….?

On the dawn of a new era for me, I am already questioning my own intentions…. This is my first blog for OpenAlchemy, and hopefully (or not) the first of many (mildly) amusing and pertinent snippets of my brain processes.

I have had a myspace account for some time, and yet I did not use the blog feature. Please do not add me. I may hurt you.

I have had a facebook account for some time. I have now got 70 odd friends who are people I actually know in real life, and yet, I dont use the blog feature. To be honest I have barely even spoken to any of them. How do you catch up with 70 people all at once who no longer have anything in comon with you? By email….?

No – it’s not a blog to be ignored by the multitudes of sympathy sign ups – I’ll be happy if one person reads my blog and enjoys it, for what it is. My blog.

I guess I’m crying out for an audience of likeminded folk, instead of drinking pals. The truth is that like most of us, my full time job bores me. It’s not that it’s not challenging, because it was, I’ve just settled in now and I want more. Challenging work inevitably becomes tedious in time, and there’s nothing I can do about it.

I’ve been banging on about open source solutions for some time now, I work for a company selling open protocol building control systems, using open source software wherever possible to complete my tasks. I decided its time to speak about my experiences, and create somewhere people can go to to find out “Should I try it?” and “Is it good enough compared to…”.

I want to dispell the myths about open source alternatives, and hopefully enlighten end users and open source coders alike, about what is required from open source software to be successful.

I also want to give Microsoft and Adobe an anti-antitrust kick in the teeth on principle. Even if I do think M$ were innocent.

Welcome to my world….

We’ll talk soon.
